Becoming a Freemason

Joining Freemasonry

Thank you for you interest in Freemasonry, congratulations on taking the first step to becoming a member of our Lodge and beginning your journey in Freemasonry.
Membership Process
This Section will explain the process to becoming a member, from your first contact with the Lodge through to your initiation and subsequent degrees.  If you have any further questions or would like more information please contact the lodge as we would be more than happy to assist you with your question.
  • Enquiry to the Lodge
  • Meet with the Lodge members at a Lodge Festive board
  • Complete Membership Form
  • Provide names and contact numbers of four (4) references
  • We will contact the referees and seek references about your suitability for membership
  • Once completed we will arrange for a meeting with you and your family/partner (if applic.) to further discuss your application and allow you and your family to have any further questions answered.   This will usually happen at your home, but can be arranged at another location.
  • At this stage your application is forwarded to our Grand Lodge for approval to progress with your application.
  • Once we have the approval our Lodge will then undertake a process called a Ballot.   This is a secret ballot conducted inside our Lodge room, where each member is given a White Cube and a Black Ball, the ballot is conducted in a way that each member places a White Cube in the box to accept or a Black Ball to reject.
  • After your successful ballot you will be contacted to confirm the details for your upcoming initiation.
  • Usually the next month after your ballot we will conduct your initiation, this is a wonderful ceremony which will be of great enjoyment to yourself.   There is nothing within the ceremony that is embarrassing or designed to ridicule you. Each step of the process will be explained to you in full, and you will have a member of the Lodge with you at all times to ensure you enjoy your initiation.
  • Your initiation marks the end of the application process, however it marks the beginning of your Masonic life and your education in Freemasonry.   Throughout the coming months you will receive further information and assistance to help you prepare for future degree ceremonies.

Throughout the entire membership process you will be invited to attend our monthly meetings where you will be able to partake in our Festive Boards, which are our semi-formal dinners after our meeting.   This will give you a chance to meet and converse with the various members of our lodge and also give the Lodge members a chance to better get to know you better.   Throughout the year we will also have various functions of which your partner or family will be more than welcome to attend.
